Giving

If Jesus was standing here right now and asked you, ‘What is it that you want the most?’ What would you say?” For many that’s a materialistic answer. A new car, money, etc…

Here’s another question for you… Is the Kingdom of God important to you? If so, what are you willing to give or give up to establishing His Kingdom? If He’s a giver, shouldn’t we also be? Talk given 12/7/10.

Experiencing God’s Love

Many of us have very little idea what it means to actually love properly and what love means!  I’m speaking of both men and women. We say things like “I Love my wife or girlfriend or boyfriend.” Almost in the same breath we turn round and say, “I love that car” or “I love this shirt.”  Suddenly the word “love” means less and less because we spread it around and cheapen it.  This also transfers onto our relationship with God!  Is this what God’s love is like?

What does it mean in 1 John 4:19 which says, “We love because He first Loved us?”  Can we trust that?  If it doesn’t look like the world’s love, what does it look like?

Please listen and grow with us into a love like no other!  Talk given 11/16/10.

Singleness is NOT the Enemy

Singleness is not a sin.  It’s not a curse, not a disease, and not a problem to be solved. Singleness is a season and a gift, but few see it that way. Many out there in Christendom have taken marriage and put it on a pedestal and very often is seen as one of the necessary goals of being a Christian.  Is it really?

It is said that if you want to serve God, stay single, and if you want to be more like God, get married. Maybe either one is good.

Let’s look to the Bible to clear this up for us.  Please read and learn with us as we examine Biblical Singleness.  Due to Technical difficulties we were unable to record this talk.  Please read the notes and Powerpoint to see what we talked about.  Talk given 10/26/10.

Biblical Righteousness – Serving the Poor and Oppressed

God’s has great concern for those who are marginalized, pushed aside, forgotten by people and/or suffering in some way.  It is mentioned form the beginning of the Bible to the end!  We so often read the Bible from a selfish perspective that we miss this major theme in the Sciptures.  In fact it is mentioned more than almost any other theme!

If it’s so important why do we overlook it?  Please learn with us why it’s so important to join in with God to love those around us who are in need!  Talk given 10/19/10.

Due to technical difficulties we were unable to record this talk.  Please review the notes and powerpoint below instead.

Prayer!

Prayer is talked about repetitively throughout the Bible.  It is a commandment from God to us.  It is about us knowing God and asking Him to work in us and through us and around us.  Prayer isn’t for God, it’s for us.

Join us as you listen to Kim, who brought the message this week, and learn together what it really means to “seek God’s face.”  Talk given 9/28/10.

Sharing Faith

It is a Biblical command that a follower of Jesus actually shares his/her faith in Him!  1 Peter 3:15 says “Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have.”  We are all supposed to be doing it.  Period.  But, few actually do.  Shouldn’t it be like sharing something that is sweet with someone, Like Ice-cream?

Why?  What’s so hard about it?  Is it because we don’t know what it is we are trying to share, or is it a fear of rejection from people?  Also, let’s face it… There are a lot of people out there sharing their faith in very destructive ways, or at least not doing it with gentleness and respect!  Is our fear because we have seen all the wrong examples of how to share faith in Christ with people?

Listen as we talk about what we are really trying to share with people, and analyze various methods out there and see if we can come up with a good way of going about sharing our faith with people.  There might even be a testimony from one of our new sisters!  Talk given on 9/14/10.

Jesus is calling you to be a Disciple!

Jesus was and is the creator of everything we know!  He could have snapped His fingers and just demanded that we all follow Him, but He didn’t.  He could have had the greatest “mega-church” the world has ever seen, but He didn’t.  Instead, he chose to build into 12 men and left them with the call to build into more.  Why would he do that?  Was it an accident?  Did He make a mistake?

Kicking off the year, Steve preached on the call to be a disciple.   Please learn with us why the most powerful being ever, would choose to act in such a way!

Due to technical difficulties we were not able to record this talk.  Please read the notes and powerpoint.  Talk given 8/31/10.

Was Jesus God?

Steve gave the talk at the last session of our regional fall retreat this year.  The theme of the weekend was “Mythbusters: we don’t just believe, we put it to the test!”  and was largely oriented around many typical questions that skeptics have about the Christian faith.  It was a great time with nearly 150 in attendance and 35 of those were from UAlbany!  It was a powerful talk, that challenged both believers and non-believers to know and follow Jesus!

When he was finished speaking he went to the back of the room to get some materials for the small group he was leading only to find a woman named Michelle sitting near his bag.  She spoke up and said, “It was like you were talking just to me!”  and then followed with, ” You mentioned that if a person wanted to start a relationship with Jesus, there was a prayer we should pray.  What was that prayer?”  Steve asked, “Do you want to pray that now?”  She responded, “YES!”

After leading her in prayer for salvation, Steve asked if he could tell everyone of her exciting decision and she said “Sure!” Steve walked to the front of the room and spoke into the mic… “Ladies and Gentlmen, Michelle just gave her life to Christ!  Welcome to the family Michelle!”  The room exploded in applause and rejoicing!

Additionally, Joe Shea [Senior CA Staff] stated, “That was one of the most thorough talks on the resurrection I have ever heard.”  Maybe you will agree.  Maybe not.  Please listen and find out.

Maybe you are like Michelle and after hearing this message want to know Jesus personally.  If that is true, please contact us via email:  campusambassadors.ualbany@gmail.com

Jesus IS Practical!

What have we learned this year?  As we wrapped up 2009-2010, we looked back at the vast amount of topics and distance we had come in just one year with Jesus’ help and direction!

It was a powerful year and there is some great testimony to that in this talk!

Due to technical difficulties we were not able to record this talk, however please read the notes and view the slides below.  Talk given on 5/4/10.

Jesus is Practical: Sabbath

REST!  Some never get any.  Some get way too much!  Yet, neither extreme is healthy.  God teaches us from the beginning of the Bible, and all throughout it, to take a break, to rest, to contemplate, to fellowship with Him; to sabbath!

Why is this so important to God?  Why did He rest?  What does this do for us?  Is this a hard and fast rule, or a concept or a suggestion?  What does it look like to rest?

Join us for this teaching as we investigate God’s heart for our rest!

Talk given 4/27/10.  Sadly, due to technical difficulties we were unable to record this message.  However please see the notes and powerpoint below.
